Massacre at Haslau
On the eve of the Midsummer festival in 1083, nobles of the Western Brendenburgh alliance, namely the houses of Gosteli, Barbarossa, Canossa, Visconti, Godoy, and Del Bove were invited to Haslau to celebrate the birth of Brenden as was traditional.
Durazzo mercenaries were present, hired by the Del Bove and Canossa houses, as the soldiers of the houses present for the feast were invited to take part in the festivities. However as it turns out, the Del Bove had conspired with the Durazzo to use the festival as a convenient place to eliminate their former rivals, the Canossas, and their potential competition, the Gosteli-Visconti. The plan was largely successful, and the following perished that evening:
- Eva Gosteli, Sister of Janos and Wife of Bertrand Canossa
- Besina, Dianora, Dareos, children of Eva and Bertrand
- Yeraz, Vosgan and Razmig, sons of Sevag Vashirishvili
